Local partners
Université de Bordeaux
LIGHT S&A Campus is part of the Bordeaux university. Various university departments and tools are dedicated to develop partnerships (with other scientific entities, industries, etc.) and help our researchers to raise funds, promote innovations, create business…
AST / SAAT
SATT Aquitaine Science Transfert is the technology transfer acceleration company (Société d’Accélération du Transfert de Technologies) of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
Our mission :
- To protect and develop inventions resulting from the work of public researchers in the region, turning their inventions into innovations placed on the market
- To accelerate the process from declaration of the invention to transfer of the technology, product, process, service, software, etc. to a third party… and sometimes even to a new company, when the researcher in question becomes an entrepreneur !

The HUB
The hub is a thematically structured collaborative platform supported by the University of Bordeaux.
Its aim? To give players in the socio-economic world access to the full range of university resources : high-level scientific expertise, cutting-edge technologies and innovations, specific equipment, adapted structures and spaces, etc.
DIESE
The Department for development through innovation, entrepreneurship and links with socio-economic players (DIESE) is the ideal point of contact to help all players in the socio-economic world to build their collaborative projects with the University of Bordeaux.
Our mission :
- To develop and support the capacity to innovate and undertake projects
- To facilitate access to resources to create value
- To generate and promote the emergence of ideas, detect nascent projects and provide support for project development
Chaire Cordouan
The Cordouan Chair is the result of collaboration between Light S&T Graduate Program and the Bordeaux University Foundation.
The challenges of the Cordouan Chair are:
- To co-construct ambitious projects in response to international calls for tender
- Training future researchers and engineers to meet the growing need for R&D in photonics
- Attracting and integrating international talent, companies and university partners from LIGHT into the “Cordouan” Chair to build relationships beyond the Aquitaine region and establish the Chair as a recognised international network

Alpha RLH
The ALPHA – Route des Lasers & des Hyperfréquences® (ALPHA-RLH) competitiveness cluster works with companies and laboratories in setting up, evaluating and funding innovative projects.
The cluster is based in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region (Bordeaux, Limoges, La Rochelle and Pau) and brings together talents in Photonics and Microwave technologies. It facilitates progress and innovation at the service of the economic development.
It is based on six Strategic Fields of Activity and one Cross-Disciplinary Field of Activity.
ALPHA-RLH is structured around two key Strategic Fields of Activity: Photonics-Lasers (laser sources and procedures, optical components, instrumentation) and Microwaves-Electronics (integrated circuits, radiocommunication systems, radar systems), with the support of digital tools (Digital Solutions & the Factory of the Future Cross-Disciplinary Field of Activity), and promotes the notion of collaborative innovation for the purposes of four markets (applied Strategic Fields of Activity) :
- Health (Medical Devices and Autonomy) : techniques for imaging, diagnosis and treatment, technological solutions for people suffering from a loss of autonomy
- Communications-Security : components or systems for data transfer, data and network security
- Aeronautics-Space-Defense : embedded optic/optronic systems, innovative solutions for making materials, communication, navigation, lighting
- Energy-Smart Buildings : solar technologies, lighting solutions, energy efficiency, energy storage, communicating or connected devices for buildings
AlphaNov
ALPhANOV, the Technology center of the ALPHA-RLH competitiveness cluster (Photonics & Microwaves French cluster) supports innovation from its optics and lasers expertise.
Expertise and know-how at the service of industry.
ALPhANOV has been created in 2007 as an non-profit organization by the Regional Council of Aquitaine, the CEA (Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique [Atomic Energy Commission]), the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique [National Centre for Scientific Research]), Bordeaux University and the association ALPhA, ALPhANOV is located within the Optics Institute of Aquitaine, on the Talence campus. Its actions aim to :
- Help the creation and development of businesses by bringing innovative technological solutions
- Assist in the valorization of research laboratories and in the technology transfer process
- Build-up collaborative projects, bring technologies to maturity and accelerate products to market
- Provide resources and services in the field of optics and lasers
International partners
Translight
This project seeks to exploit a long-standing connection between the poles of Photonics in the Basque Country and in Bordeaux to take their mutual interest to a next level of collaboration in joint specific activities targeting the areas of (i) research; (ii) training; and (iii) technological transfer within the Photonics area.
The project aims at boosting the dynamics initiated by the two communities to promote the development of high-impact collaborative fundamental research in light sciences, the academic collaboration and exchange regarding training of excellence in Photonics, and the exploration of effective and practical channels to exploit technology transfer regarding the industry of light.
LUMAQ
LUmière Matière FrAnce Québec
LUMAQ is an International Associate laboratory (LIA) which gathers Institutions such as CNRS, University of Bordeaux, Laval University and INRS merging three laboratories in France on Bordeaux site : ICMCB, CELIA and ISM ; a laboratory in Laval University : COPL and a center of INRS : CEMT in Canada.
